What do you have in store for your life today?

Saturday, July 17, 2010

Well, I have found a new pattern. I am in love with it. I even think I have the perfect yarn for it. Problem. I still am not finished with this

This pattern is called Seneca by Jared Flood. I love it, but for some reason I am having difficulties finishing it. GRRR. I have told myself that I am going to finish this sweater this summer. It has only been setting on needles since the beginning of December.

I told myself this morning that I was going to work on it today. I don't think that is going to happen. I was on Ravelry and found this

The pattern for this is called Slink. It looks like a fast knit and fun. I might even have the perfect yarn. Hmmm, what is a chik to do?

2x4 Socks

Well here is another project finished. I signed up to do a Sock a month at my LYS. This pattern is called 2x4 socks. It is a very easy pattern. I love them and they are comfy.

Grab Bag

I was looking for a cute little bag that I can put one skein of sock yarn in. I found a pattern called The Grab Bag from Curbly's website. I think I am going to modify the pattern just a little bit so when I am setting in the lawn chair in the evening I can hang it from the arm. I can't wait to start on this tomorrow.

The first is Mother-Daughter Knits, 30 Designs that Flatter and Fit (POTTER CRAFT, 2009)

and the second one is

Can't wait to read them both.

Another Project

Ok. Like I need another project going on. I told myself since I have the summer off I want to get a couple of projects finished from this past winter. I have succeeded with one. I finished an afghan that I started in December. Checked that one off my list. I took a sock class starting in April. Finished the socks from that. I still have a sweater that I am working on and I have also started a pair of socks for DH. I have only one of the socks for him finished. He lets me know regularly that the other foot is getting cold. I now am getting ready to go buy yarn for this throw. It is so cute. I can't decide if I should use the same colors or use different ones. I guess we will see what happens when I get to the store later today.

This is where I got the pattern.

I Did It!

Well I finally did it. I knit up a pair of sock that fit my feet like a pair of gloves. I love them. I took a class at my LYS called Mathematical Socks. In this class the instructor showed us how and where to measure our feet to make socks for ourselves. We also learned how important it is to make a gauge swatch. I know, I know it is time consuming! I will be the first to admit I have never, except on the Lady's February Sweater, done a gauge swatch. I didn't ever want to take the time to do it. Now I set back and think about how many things I have made didn't come out quite like I wanted them to or they didn't fit right. Well, the answer is because I didn't make gauge. I am vowing from now on to make a gauge swatch before starting any projects. There I said it. I feel better now.

Pancakes in a can

This is why my two boys (husband and son) don't usually go grocery shopping with me. This is the type of thing that ends up in the cart and home.

Mail Call

Hmmm. Wonder what's in the brown box setting in my mailbox?

I opened it and what did I see? 3 skeins of yarn, 2 sets of cable needles, Knit-Kards and curved needles.

This brown should make a nice pair of socks for my hubby.

This green will make a pretty pair for me.

Another great tool to have in my knitting bag. These cards are quick reference and will come in really handy.

Yard Work

We have been working madly in our yard for the past few weekends. We don't have much space, but would really like to have a garden. We are creating raised bed gardening in our yard. I told my husband if we do this then it has to look nice. We went to our friendly Lowe's and purchased cedar 2x4s and 2x6s to create our raised gardens. This is what we have created so far. After pictures will soon arrive.

In this bed we have 2 Boysenberry, 1 Raspberry and 1 Blackberry bush. I am really excited to see if I will get enough harvest off of the to make jelly.

The longer bed I plan on planting my tomatoes, jalapeno peppers and green peppers.
In the shorter bed I plan on putting the onions and garlic.

These beds I am really excited about. The bed in the back I plan on putting Swiss Chard and Cucumbers in the back to climb up the fence. The bed in the middle will have lettuce, watermelon, cantaloupe and a small space for squash. Then the long skinny bed will have Broccoli, Brussel Sprouts, Beans and Strawberries.

Happy Spring Planting

Cracked Feet

Okay, I don't know if anyone else has this issues, but I do every year and it is very painful. I get really bad cracked feet in the spring time and when we go to the lake in the summer. I have tried everything under the sun but nothing really works. Well the other day I wore flip flops for the first time this season and guess what. Yep my feet cracked. They hurt so bad. I put lotion on band-aides and then put them on my feet. I wore band-aides for a couple of days. Then I came across a blog on The Common Cents Home. She had a guest blogger who talked about this wonderful ointment. I figured I would give it a try. I am now a lover of this ointment. It is called Calendula. I have seen a difference in my feet and I have only used it twice. I have also used it on my hands and they are not dry and yucky. Check it out.

I am in the mind set right now that I have to many project going at once. Well, maybe I just can't seem to finish the projects that I have started because I keep finding new ones that I want to do. I am on a mission to finish the February Lady Sweater that I started in February. I have been working on it off and on. Last night I have come really close to finishing the body of it. Here is a link to what the sweater is suppose to look like. I just love it and can't wait for mine to be finished.

Night Stand

We have been very busy around here. The weather has been wonderful, but here in Kansas it is very "BREEZY". Since the weather is warming up I am getting the gardening bug. I have attempted several times for a garden, but just can't get the produce. So this year hubby and I have built raised beds. This weekend I had the day off on Friday and asked dear hubby how much topsoil to get delivered so we could fill the beds. He told me 10 ton. What?! So the obedient wife that I am ordered the soil. We are now finished with the beds. Will post pics later.

In the midst of building garden beds I came across one of my favorite blogs, Knock off Wood. I decided to make The Simplest Nightstand because younger son has wanted a nightstand for his room. So the super mom that I am decided to make one all by myself. Mine is a little smaller in size because of the space it has to fit in, but hubby and young son love it. I am very proud of myself!

This is not the best picture. I took it with my phone, but you can get the jest.

Tacky Tuesday

Okay. I took one of my treasures from this past weekend and spruced it up a little. I love it! This little gold frame has been given new life. I took the little gold frame that I paid $2.99 and painted it Brushed Nickle. This is my favorite new color.

I then took this wonderful Spray adhesive and sprayed it on the back of some fabric and the backing of the picture frame.

I was looking for the perfect picture to put in my new frame. I came across this picture of my grandmother when she was a child. I had forgotten that I even had it. What a wonderful find.

Now my new frame is put in place with the cute little bowl that I found at Goodwill.

Total cost for the frame was 2.49. What a deal for a new look. Good luck on your turning tacking into Treasure.

Been Busy

Okay, I thought I was going to be good about this blogging thing. I really did have good intentions of writing daily. Hasn't happened. I have been following and readying everyone's blogs. So many wonderful and inspiring ideas out there. Well you all have inspired me. These are a few of my recent finds at the Goodwill. Can't wait to fix a few of my treasures.

That is a cute little hat in the corner. I have seen them at Specialty stores for $40. I got it for 99 cents.

That's right this mirror was only $4.99. It is a heavy mirror. I can't imagine what the original price was.
